Novak Djokovic v Sam Querrey Head to Head
The two have played each other 10 times and Djokovic has an 8-2 win-loss record against Querrey. However, their last meeting came as far back as the 2016 Wimbledon, the infamous match-up in which Querrey shocked the Serbian world number one in four sets in the third round. The only other win for Querrey had come in the 2012 Paris Masters but that was even more stunning given the American had lost the first set 6-0 in that one.
Return from Wimbledon for Djokovic
Not surprisingly, Djokovic withdrew from the Rogers Cup last week to get ready in time for the 2019 US Open. After all, the world number one had had a stunning but mentally draining time at the Wimbledon final in July and would have needed all the rest possible coming into the US Open series.
Djokovic performed a near Houdini’s act in that title-decider at Wimbledon. Faced with a familiar foe, an in-form Federer, the Serb was down two match-points on his opponent’s serve but turned things around and won. If that doesn’t give him a boost for the rest of the season, not sure what would.
Overall this season, Djokovic is 38-7 on win-loss, or 35-6 if one takes Exhibition matches out of the equation. This includes three title wins so far, one on each of the three surfaces and two of them coming in Grand Slams. Can he rub off his rust and get going in the same fashion against Querrey?

Querrey’s Slow Start on Hard Courts
The American world number 45 hasn’t played a lot this season, with his 27 matches yielding 18 wins and nine losses. Five of those defeats have come on hard court surfaces, but in a similar manner to Djokovic, Querrey will take his confidence from his Wimbledon showing.
He made it as far as the quarter-final at the year’s third major, following on from a semi-final showing in 2017 on the same surface. In that very year, Querrey had also finished up as a quarter-finalist at the US Open, but his record has fallen by the wayside on these hard court surfaces over the past two years.
Querrey did overcome Pierre-Hugues Herbert in tough, two-setter in his first round match but taming the tennis beast by the name of Djokovic will be another kettle of fish.
Djokovic v Querrey Predictions & Tips
Despite his rustiness issues, this should be fairly straightforward for the world number one with Djokovic expected to win it in straight sets.
Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 1/2 (888Sport)
