Novak Djokovic v Daniil Medvedev Head to Head

The two players have met four times on the ATP circuit with Djokovic leading 3-1. This year they have met twice, once at the Australian Open, and then at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000. While the Serb won in Melbourne in a tight four set contest, the young Russian won a deciding set in Monte Carlo.

Djokovic Strengthening His Stand As Favorite Ahead of US Open

Defending champion Novak Djokovic is in his first tournament after his epic Wimbledon final against Roger Federer. He began the tournament looking rusty early in the first round, but has since gained in confidence and affirming his place as the favorite for the upcoming US Open.

The world number one has had three straight set wins against Sam Querrey, Pablo Carreno Busta and Lucas Pouille. Despite there being moments where each of the opponents looked like gaining momentum, the Serb was always able to alter the tide and gain control of the situation.

Djokovic is the defending champion at Cincinnati and with only two of the top ten seeds making the semi-finals, will fancy his chances increasingly to win the tournament for a second consecutive year.

Medvedev Aiming For A Title After Three Consistent Weeks

23 year old Daniil Medvedev recorded his 42nd tour level win and 29th hard court win for the year, when he defeated compatriot Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals, making him the leader on the ATP circuit for 2019 in both categories.

The Russian has had a phenomenal last three weeks being runner-up at the Citi Open in Washington D.C, as well as at the Rogers Cup in Montreal last week. He has followed that with another strong showing this week in Cincinnati, making the semi-finals again.

Medvedev has broken into the top ten of the ATP rankings for the first time last month and will be ranked in the top eight when the rankings release next week.

The Russian has been in excellent serving form through the hard court season and will hoping to maintain that level in his semi-final against top seed Djokovic.

Djokovic v Medvedev Predictions & Tips

This is a very exciting match on the cards and could well be the match-up of the hard court season this year.

Djokovic is one of the best, if not the best hard court player across generations and almost unbeatable on the surface when he is in form. Medvedev on the other hand is in excellent form and has gone from strength to strength on the surface.

Each time these two players have met, they have played each other hard and one can expect that again. Djokovic starts as a firm favorite, but Medvedev pulling of a win will not be a total surprise either. One can expect a tussle with excellent shot making and Djokovic to edge Medvedev in a thrilling three-setter.

Tip: Djokovic to win in three sets: 3/1 (888Sport)
