David Goffin v Gregoire Barrere Head to Head
Goffin leads 1-0 having won their only encounter at the French Open in 2016.
Goffin Turns On In Style
The year began with a string of inconsistent performances; then came the grass court season and it quickly turned around the fortunes of David Goffin. A quarterfinal appearance at s-Hertogenbosch was followed by a run to the final at the Halle Open, where the Belgian was defeated by nine-time champion Roger Federer, which was then followed by a last eight finish at the All England Club.
It was Goffin’s best-ever performance at the Wimbledon only to be cut short by a dominant display by eventual champion Novak Djokovic.
Two tournaments later in Cincinnati, Goffin reached another milestone in his career, making his first-ever appearance at a Masters 1000 final, but the title remained elusive, after Daniil Medvedev triumphed in straight sets.
The 28-year-old right-hander, who has a 27-19 overall win-loss record this year and is 9-3 in Grand Slams, looked in decent touch against Moutet, dominating for most part of the contest, before marching into the next round with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 win. Up next will be another French opponent – his fourth in last six ATP matches.

Barrere Is The Comeback Man
Over the last one week Gregoire Barrere seems to have mastered the art of holding nerves in crunch situations.
In the first two rounds of the qualifiers, the Frenchman had to fight back from a set down to progress. Then on Monday, he squandered a 2-set lead against Britain’s Cameron Norrie, allowing him to come back in to the contest and force the decider, before holding nerves and clinching the fifth set to win 7-6 (4), 6-4, 4-6, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2).
The 25-year-old right-hander, who has won two Challenger Tour titles this year, is into the second round for the third time at a major this year, however, he is yet to progress ahead.
David Goffin v Gregoire Barrere Predictions & Tips
Given Goffin’s form and experience, he shouldn’t have much trouble advancing into the next round. As far as Barrere goes, he has shown a lot of guts and determination so far at the U.S. Open, but the Frenchman will be fighting both mental and physical fatigue against Goffin, having played three draining matches over the last one week.
Tip: Goffin to win in three sets: 3/1 (888Sport)
