The pair have met twice before. Schwartzman won on the clay of Kitzbuhel in 2014, but Zverev triumphed on the indoor hard courts of the Paris Masters last year.
Zverev, Bedene Win Makes Personal History
Zverev has made it through to the fourth round of the US Open for the first time, and is on track for a potential quarter-final match up with Rafael Nadal.
Not that the number six seed has made it easy for himself so far at this year’s event, after becoming involved in two marathon matches. In the first round he surrendered a two set lead to Radu Albot of Moldova, before finding an extra gear to close the match out in the fifth.
Then he became embroiled in another battle with the American Frances Tiafoe in the second round, and it was only his superior fitness that enabled him to win, again in five sets.
After those exertions, he would have been hoping for an easier time of it against Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia in the third round, a man he had beaten in all their previous encounters. But again he had to fight, losing the first round on a tie-break, before winning the next three and the match.
Still, he will know that, at this stage of a Grand Slam, it is the winning that counts, not how you did it.

For somebody regarded mainly as a clay court specialist, Schwartzman has a good record at the US Open, reaching the quarter-final here two years ago, before losing to the Spaniard Pablo Carreno-Busta. That was his best showing at a Grand Slam to date but, by reaching the fourth round, he has emulated his achievement in Melbourne last year.
He had given some indications that he was in good form on hard courts by winning the Los Cabos Open in Mexico last month, his third senior singles title, and he has carried that into New York, where he has yet to drop a set.
In the first round, he saw off the challenge of Robin Haase of the Netherlands, and then easily dispatched Egor Gerasimov of Belarus. Home favourite Tennys Sandgren of America was expected to put up more of a challenge in the third round, but he was beaten for the loss of just eight games.
Zverev v Schwartzman Predictions & Tips
Zverev is the marginal favourite to win this match at 10/11, whilst Schwartzman is priced at 3/1. The Argentine was in much the better form of the two coming into this tournament, and he has yet to drop a set here, whereas the German has had to battle hard in all of his matches to get this far. Despite that, Zverev should win, although he may have to display all his fighting qualities again.
