Serena Williams v Bianca Andreescu Head to Head
This match is a repeat of the Cincinnati Open Final from a few weeks back, where the two players collided. In what promised to be a brilliant match, Williams withdrew early in the first set due to an injury, giving Andreescu a walkover to the trophy.
Yet Another Final for Williams
Reaching the final at the US Open has become a habit for Serena Williams. Competing in her sixth final this decade at the Flushing Meadows, the number 8 seed has moved on to win three of those, while settling for the runner-up trophy on the other two occasions. She is also eyeing her 24th Grand Slam title to finally equal Margaret Court’s record.
More than that, it’s interesting how Williams faces against the opponents who are considerably young. Case in point, last season she faced Naomi Osaka in the final, where she had a controversial outburst in a match that was decisively won by the 21-year-old Japanese. This time, she faces an even younger opponent who has been in an imposing form, to say the very least.
However, that isn’t to say that Serena herself hasn’t been that impressive. Following a mixed start to the season due to a series of injuries, she found her groove at the Wimbledon, where she reached the final. After losing to Simona Halep there, she reached yet another final – this time in Cincinnati.
The American ace is now playing in her third consecutive major final on the tour this season. With a win-loss record of 19-5, she has been simply unstoppable in New York. She has dispatched the likes of Elina Svitolina, Qiang Wang, Maria Sharapova, and Petra Martic without as much as breaking a sweat. More than wins, these have been absolute statements by the 38-year-old that she is going to reclaim her crown here.
What will be interesting to see here is whether there will be another drama on her end. She will be hoping to avoid the same mistakes as she made against Osaka but then again, Andreescu is an unforgiving, formidable player.

Andreescu, on the Verge of History
At 19 years of age, Bianca Andreescu is competing in her maiden Grand Slam final. It is hard to imagine that at the start of the season, she was outside the top 150 and now, she is closer to a top 10 debut.
With a win-loss tally of 38 wins and just four defeats, she has been in a ruthless, imposing form. Her last defeat to a player, an actual defeat and not an injury retirement, came in the semifinal of WTA Acapulco back in February.
As a winner of the Indian Wells Open and Cincinnati Open, Andreescu has already registered some impressive wins over several big guns – Angelique Kerber, Svitolina, Garbine Muguruza, Kiki Bertens, and Karolina Pliskova.
Despite missing out on the clay and grass swing due to a shoulder injury, the young Canadian returned to the tour as if nothing had changed. Not only did she recover fully from her injuries, but she also won a big title in the build-up to the US Open.
In fact, she continued to play with the same passion in New York too, moving past the likes of Kirsten Flipkens, Caroline Wozniacki, Taylor Townsend, Elise Mertens, and Belinda Bencic. She was tested in these games but Andreescu, with a streak of brilliance, managed to navigate her bracket flawlessly.
Williams v Andreescu Tips & Predictions
This is going to be a big match for both the players. There is a lot at stake here, after all. Williams is facing an opponent who was born shortly after she won her first Grand Slam, back in 1999. Andreescu, on the other hand, will be hoping to walk into Osaka’s footsteps and deliver yet another mega upset. All in all, this is going to be a great match for the books!
Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 17/20 (888Sport)
