Karolina Pliskova v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head
Pliskova holds a 3-1 lead over the Aussie, last defeating her in the Italian Open earlier this season. They also met in Brisbane at the start of the year, where the Czech powered past Ajla in three sets.
Pliskova, Back to her Winning Ways
Karolina Pliskova, who is currently World No. 2 at the moment, has started her Asian swing with the best possible run. With a win-loss tally of 45-13 and a title from every surface, she has been in an imposing, ruthless form this season.
In Shenzhen, she enjoyed a bye into the second round and started with a straight-set win over Polona Hercog. In the quarterfinal, she met a very spirited Sofia Kenin, whom she had to battle for three sets before getting the much-needed win.
Pliskova had a rather slow run in the US Open, where she fell to Johanna Konta in the fourth round. Nonetheless, in the build up to the tournament, most notably in Toronto and Cincinnati, she was a quarter-finalist.
In fact, there are only a few tournaments this season where the Czech never made it past the early rounds. In a majority of her appearances, she has always made it to the penultimate rounds. Plus, she also holds a good record against the top 10 players, making her a true favourite here in Zhengzhou.

Tomljanovic, with an Impressive Run
It has been a long way for Tomljanovic to reach the semifinal on the WTA Tour. The last time she did this was back in April in Rabat, Morocco, where she fell in the semifinal to Konta. Since then, she has played in a lot of events where she fell fairly early in the opening rounds.
For the Hua Hin Open runner-up, it has been a tricky year in terms of trying to get a grip on the circuit. Through the entire US Open series, she failed to move past the second round – something that has been in line with the rest of her season.
In Zhengzhou, however, she has been on a roll. Starting with the Dutch qualifier Lesley Kerkhove, she moved past the number three seed Kiki Bertens – registering her single biggest win of the season. That win propelled her confidence to new heights as she dispatched the defending champion Saisai Zheng in straight sets in the quarterfinal.
Pliskova v Tomljanovic Tips & Predictions
On any other day, Pliskova would have started as the overwhelming favourite to win. But given Tomljanovic’s recent form, she may be in for a tough fight. All in all, this will be an entertaining affair that can very well go either way.
