Del Potro Returns to Training, Aiming for Return

In what will be good news for Juan Martin del Potro fans, he has returned to training and could be back to playing very soon.

The Argentine has had a career plagued with injuries. His latest setback came at the Queen’s in June, earlier this year where he unfortunately fractured his right knee-cap and had to undergo surgery in order to rectify the problem.

He had had a problem with the same knee cap when he was playing in last year’s Shanghai Masters. This latest setback has plummeted the Argentine’s ranking to No. 71 in the world, having been ranked third in the world just last August.

However, this will not bother Del Potro too much as he has faced situations like this before. After his last wrist injury as well, he underwent surgery and was absent from the sport for a while. That put him way off in the rankings, falling down to an astonishing No. 1045 in the world rankings but the determined Argentine climbed all the way back to No. 3 in the world after that.

The former US Open champion and last year’s finalist at the Flushing Meadows missed out on Wimbledon and the US Open this year due to his fractured knee cap. But after months of absence from the sport, Del Potro is back and fighting again. He recently took to the practice courts again and even posted a small clip of him hitting again.

The Argentine is now hopeful of returning to action this very season. In fact, he has signed up for the Stockholm Open starting next month on the October 14 and also the Vienna Open that will take place between October 21 to 27.

He will be hoping to come back with a bang. He has previously won both of these tournaments in his career, and will be up for the challenge to capture them again. Following these two events comes the Paris Masters which he might be eyeing as well.
