Sofia Kenin made an admirable comeback against Samantha Stosur to win her third WTA Tour title of 2019 at the Guangzhou Open on Saturday.
The American won 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-2 in the final to follow up a remarkable run through to the final of this competition that saw her enter the match as a favourite.
The 20-year-old Kenin produced a crucial break at 4-4 in the second set, which in hindsight appeared out to be the turning point of the game as she went on a rampage thereafter taking the next seven games in succession to make her intentions clear.

Australian Stosur, who was a wildcard in Guangzhou, had battled all odds to make it to her first WTA singles final in two-and-a-half years. Her impressive run in the tournament will get her in the WTA’s top 100 rankings.
Kenin showed great character and forced a decider after Stosur took an early lead. She took it upon herself to finish the game and held to love either side of successive breaks to take a huge lead of 5-1 which she did not surrender and then she comfortable served for the match.
