Rybakina is hovering around her career-best ranking of 49th and two wins here already should help her skip past a few of the players above her. That’s to do with the fact she hadn’t participated in the tournament last year and any win here would help her win more points to the ranking tally.
They have been fighting wins too. In the opener, she overcame Lin Zhu 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 before defeating lucky loser Ons Jabeur 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 to advance to this third round encounter. A runner-up trophy at Nanchang would have changed things around a lot for her but her biggest coup came earlier this year when the 20-year-old won her first ever WTA title at Bucharest.
With her confidence sky-high, she might be able to test Halep but not to the extent that even manages a set win though.
