Karolina Pliskova v Dayana Yastremska Predictions & Preview

In their only previous meeting which came earlier this year, Karolina Pliskova had needed three long sets to overcome her opponent for this third round match, Dayana Yastremska. Now that was on clay, a surface on which Yastremska won a title this year but then again, she won one at Hua Hin on hard court too, and is now ranked 27th in the world – her best WTA ranking.

Yastremska was ranked 188th at one point last year and for her to swoop up into the top 30 in this manner is something to behold. And it’s something that Pliskova will be wary of, having seen her play with so much courage in that previous meeting earlier this year.

The world number, Pliskova, however wasn’t tested even a bit against Amanda Anisimova, a rising star in her own right. She won her second round match 6-3, 6-3 to make it to the third round where she starts off as an odds on favourite to go the distance. And we think she will win this too but as undecided on whether she can wrap this up in two sets or will her opponent push her to three. Keeping it safe as a result.

Tip: Pliskova to win: 4/11 with Unibet

Aryna Sabalenka v Kiki Bertens Predictions & Preview

Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka will be taking on Kiki Bertens for a place in the quarter-finals and if one were to focus on their head to head alone, it looks like a one-sided battle in favour of Bertens. In four previous meetings, played across all three major surfaces, Bertens has won each time including twice this year.

Sabalenka, who had exhibited slight struggles this year, since starting off the season with a title win in Shenzhen, has shown a different side to her in this competition. Despite losing her quarter-final match at Zhengzhou last week, Sabalenka crushed both her opponents in the first two rounds here, dropping just four games in all.

And while Bertens, ranked eighth in the world, has won a couple of titles of her own this season, none of them have come on outdoor hard court surfaces. On that surface, she has a win-loss record of 14-12 – not particularly extraordinary for a player gunning for the WTA finals. Sabalenka favourite here.

Tip: Sabalenka to win: 8/15 with Unibet

Petra Martic v Veronika Kudermetova Predictions & Preview

This will be the first meeting between Petra Martic and Veronika Kudermetova and it comes in the third round of this Wuhan Open. Kudermetova, who is 45th on the ranking, is playing in this tournament for the first time and by reaching this far, she might be gunning to climb her a few more spots – improve on her already career-best ranking.

With a title win already on the hard courts of Guadalajara, Kudermetova is showing signs she could be handful as her 23-9 win-loss on hard courts this season shows. She overcame Kurumi Nara and Yanina Wickmayer to make the main draw here and has already sent Belinda Bencic packing from the tournament. What more, that was a comeback from behind win after she had lost the first set.

Martic is coming off a runner-up trophy at Zhengzhou and a fourth round appearance at the Flushing Meadows. She was a straight-set winner over Kristina Mladenovic in round one before overcoming Rebecca Peterson in the second round to make it through. She will still hold the edge but this could be a close encounter.

Tip: Games Handicap Kudermetova +4: 93/100 with Unibet

Qiang Wang v Alison Riske Predictions & Preview

World number 16 Wang Qiang takes on Alison Riske for the third time in her career and the big question is if she will become third time lucky. Riske is 2-0 on head to head against Wang with her Chinese opponent having not even won a set so far.

That said, Wang did make it as far as the quarter-final at the US Open and was a straight-set winner over Marie Bouzkova in the second round following her opening round bye. Riske, on the other hand, has had her struggles this season on non-grass surfaces and entered this tournament on the back of a 3-5 win-loss in main draws of tournaments after the grass season was over.

Wang is a favourite, but should she be as short as the 8/15 on offer for her win? We don’t see value in it and will have to go with three sets in the match.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 11/8 with Unibet
