Karen Khachanov v Pablo Cuevas Head to Head
Both the players have played each other three times with the Russian Khachanov coming out on top twice, Auckland in 2018 & Barcelona in 2017. Cuevas won their meeting in at the Paris Masters in 2017.
Must-Win Tournament for Khachanov to Stay Alive in Race to London
With the rise of Daniil Medvedev, many people tend to forget that 23-year-old Karen Khachanov is still one of the most exciting young players in the world. Currently ranked nine in the world rankings, Khachanov shot to spotlight in 2018 where he won three titles at Marsellile, Moscow and most famously at the Paris Masters where he stunned Novak Djokovic in the finals to lift his first Masters event.
He also made it to the last 16 at the French Open & Wimbledon and very narrowly missed out to gain an entry in the season-ending World Tour Finals. However, after playing almost 75 matches in a long & taxing season Khachanov’s form and fitness both suffered in 2019. With the rise of Daniil Medvedev, Khachanov is no longer the highest-ranked Russian on tour and his 25-23 win-loss record this season shows the kind of season he has had.
A couple of encouraging performances at the Wimbledon and the Montreal Masters showed everyone once again what he is capable of. His playing style is very similar to a past Russian player, Marat Safin, steady, stable, and effective.
He crashed out in the second round at Beijing last year and will go into this year’s edition as the fourth seed and with hopes to find some consistency back before the Asian hard court swing ends. Currently, he is 21st in the Race to London for the World Tour Finals, and he shall have to go all the way this week to have any chance of still making it to London.

Pablo Cuevas: Tough Start for Veteran After Grinding it Out in the Qualifiers
After two relatively modest seasons in 2017 & 2018, it seemed that Pablo Cuevas was on his way out but his remarkable run of victories this year, especially on Clay Courts has not only brought him back into the top 50 this year.
With very few points to defend till the end of the season, an impressive showing here can see him break into the top 30 by the end of the year.
Cuevas’ record this year is a very impressive 42-21 with 32 out of those victories coming on his favorite clay courts. Apart from the Grand Slams the Uruguayan doesn’t play many top-level events and prefers to play challengers and ATP 250 level tournaments. Even here in Beijing, he has had to come through qualifiers to reach the main stage.
Karen Khachanov v Pablo Cuevas Predictions & Tips
Cuevas has done well to reach the main draw here, and one can’t see him playing many ATP 500 or hardcourt events after Beijing this year. On the other hand, Khachanov’s game will be far too strong for the Uruguayan to face.
I expect the Russian to go through in straight sets.
Tip: Khachanov to win in straight sets 11/10 at 888Sport
