Ashleigh Barty v Petra Kvitova Head to Head
Kvitova holds a 4-1 lead over Barty and has defeated her twice already this year. In their last meeting, however, in the Miami Open, it was Barty who managed to draw first blood against the Czech and sent her packing in the quarterfinal.
Barty On a Roll
The 23-year-old cricketer-turned-tennis star has had an epic year so far. From breaking into the top 10 to becoming World No. 1 and winning her first Grand Slam, Barty’s rise to stardom is inspiring, fascinating, and sensational.
With 48 wins and just 10 losses, the Aussie has proven herself to be a difficult opponent to face on the courts. Consistency has been her strong point throughout this season, and she is becoming more lethal with every game she plays. Playing in her second consecutive Asian tournament, Barty, so far, has had a pretty mesmerizing run.
Last week in Wuhan, she was a semifinalist and by the looks of it, she looks primed to repeat that here in Beijing as well. Starting as the top seed, Barty enjoyed a bye into the second round and so far, has defeated Yulia Putintseva and Saisai Zheng. Against the latter, she did face some resistance as she was pushed to three sets but all things aside, she managed to navigate that match pretty handsomely.

Kvitova, Slowly Finding her Rhythm
So far, Kvitova has proven her worth in the Asian swing and has taken this opportunity to truly step up her game and end the season on a positive note. Following weeks of inconsistent results owing to a mix of injuries and the consequent loss in form, it appears that Petra is finally back to her winning ways.
Just like Barty, Kvitova too reached the semifinal in Wuhan last week where she fell ultimately to Alison Riske. While that result may seem a bit disappointing by her standards, it is worth mentioning that it was Petra’s first such run since the Stuttgart Open in April. By that point, she had won two singles titles and had accumulated two runner-up trophies in the process as well – the Australian Open and WTA Dubai.
So far in Beijing, she is yet to drop a set as she has defeated the likes of Kristina Mladenovic and Belinda Bencic. These players are certainly stronger than the ones Barty faced on her journey to the quarters and that certainly says something of Petra’s ability and form at the moment.
Barty v Kvitova Tips & Predictions
This is an evenly matched fixture. Expect this one to go three sets but I’ve a feeling that Kvitova will come out on the top. On her best day, she can defeat any and every player and by the looks of it, these days are finally here.
