Caroline Wozniacki v Naomi Osaka Head to Head
The Dane is heading into this fixture with a 2-0 lead over Osaka. They last met two years ago in the 2017 WTA Eastbourne, where Wozniacki prevailed in straight sets.
Wozniacki’s Best Run of the Year
Caroline Wozniacki started the season inside the top three but owing to a series of injuries and resulting drop in form, she eventually dropped out of the top 10. Up until her present run in Beijing, the best three-time Grand Slam finalist had delivered this season was a runner-up feat in Charleston.
After that, she moved on to lose in the early rounds of several big-ticket tournaments like the Italian Open, Madrid Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open, to underdogs, unseeded players. In a few of them, however, she was also forced to retire due to illness. The same trend continued up until last week in Wuhan, when she fell to Su-Wei Hsieh in the opener.
In Beijing, however, things have been completely different for her. It’s as if she is more than determined to retain her China Open title and thus, has delivered one of the most impressive performances of the season. Yet to drop a set, she has so far dispatched the likes of Lauren Davis, Christina McHale, Katerina Siniakova, and Daria Kasatkina. Of course, she also may benefited from a fairly easy bracket with early exits of Karolina Pliskova and Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Osaka, in a Ruthless Form
Currently ranked World No. 4, Naomi Osaka is playing tennis at a level which took her to back to back Grand Slam wins. Having just won the Pan Pacific Open title, she is now on the path to capture her third trophy of the season.
Osaka’s run to the semifinal has been quite impressive. Starting with Jessica Pegula, she moved on to dispatch Andrea Petkovic and Alison Riske. In the quarterfinal, she met Bianca Andreescu and handed the Canadian her fifth defeat of the season in a match which was just as entertaining as nail-biting.
The Japanese has been fairly consistent this season and is definitely worth of a place in the top five. With the exception of a few tournaments, she has made it to the fourth round and beyond on many occasions. But at the same time, she has incurred 11 defeats on her journey this season, many of which have come at the hands of players outside the top 20.
Osaka v Wozniacki Tips & Predictions
While Wozniacki is light years ahead in terms of experience in comparison to Osaka, she is likely have a tough time here. However, given her performance over the last week or so, we can expect the Dane to put up a good fight.
