Novak Djokovic v John Millman Head to Head
The pair have played each other twice before, with Djokovic winning on each occasion. The first of those wins came at the Queen’s Club in 2018, and that was followed up by a meeting at the US Open, later that same year. Millman has yet to claim a set off the Serb.
Djokovic’s Proved His Fitness, Not for the Title
One of the biggest reasons that Djokovic entered the event in Tokyo was to prove his fitness after the shoulder injury that forced him to pull out of the US Open, although the ranking points on offer for winning the tournament are also handy, as he looks to fend off the challenge of Rafael Nadal to his number one status.
In that respect, things could hardly have gone better for the 32-year old Serb in Japan. He began with a straight sets win over the Australian Alexei Popyrin in the first round, followed by another comfortable win over local favourite, Go Soeda, in the second. He then disposed of the challenge of the number five seed, Lucas Pouille, in imperious fashion in their quarter-final on Friday, taking less than an hour to beat the Frenchman for the loss of just three games.
David Goffin, of Belgium, the number three seed, offered a bit more of a challenge in their semi-final on Saturday, but a break of service in each set was enough to get the job done for the top seed, who always had something in reserve on the big points.

Millman, Biggest Final of His Career
At the age of 30, Millman has reached his second ATP final, having previously contested the Hungarian Open in 2018, where he eventually lost to Mario Cecchinato of Italy.
Whilst it is a surprise to see him reach this stage in Tokyo, it is not totally unexpected that he has done well here, because he was in good form in the lead-up to this event, winning the Challenger tour title in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, last month.
He had to come through two qualifying rounds before even making the main draw here, where he defeated Adrian Mannarino of France, the finalist last week in Zhuhai, in three sets. He then had straight set victories over Lloyd Harris of South Africa and Taro Daniel of Japan, to set-up a semi-final against Reilly Opelka of the United States.
And he produced an excellent display to beat the big-serving American, again in straights sets, to put him into the biggest final of his career to date.
Djokovic v Millman Predictions & Tips
Djokovic is the overwhelming favourite to win this match at 7/50, whilst Millman is priced at 103/20. The Australian has won six matches in a row in Tokyo and is in fine form, but he is playing a man who he has failed to win a single set off in their two previous encounters. Whilst nothing in inevitable in sport, this is as close as it gets to being a nailed on victory for the Serbian world number one.
Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 4/9 (888Sport)
