Nikoloz Basilashvili v Radu Albot Head to Head
Both the players have played each other on four occasions in the past, with the Georgian coming out on top three times. Basilashvili won their encounters at Moscow – 2012, Raanana Challenger – 2015 and in Bundesliga – 2018. The only victory for Albot came on Indoor courts at Vienna in 2016.

After an inconsistent start to the season where the Georgian suffered multiple early-round exits, the season has been very consistent for Basilashvili. He could not defend his Beijing Open title from last year as he crashed out of the second round to the hands of Stefanos Tsitsipas. Shanghai offers him an excellent opportunity to recover some of the points that he could not defend Beijing due to only reaching the second round here last year.

29-year-old Moldovan has enjoyed his best return so far in his career this year. He has reached three semi-finals this year as well as created history by becoming the first player from Moldova to win a title by winning the Delray Beach Open. He reached his career-best ranking of 39 a couple of months ago.
The only blemish has been that he was unable to make it past the second round of any of the majors. He can still end the year with his highest ever career ranking since he only played in Challengers after the Shanghai Masters last year.

The most important factor for both the players going into the match is inconsistent form in the recent events. Basilashvili’s record on hard courts this year has been uninspiring. On the other hand, Albot hasn’t gone past round two of any of his past five tournaments.
It is going to be a close match with both the players depending on their serve and volley game. Basilashvili may just edge it past the Moldovan because of a better baseline game overall.
