Dominic Thiem v Stefanos Tsitsipas Head to Head

This is the sixth meeting between the two players, with Thiem leading 3-2. The last meeting was at the ATP Masters 1000 in Toronto in 2018. Tsitsipas won that encounter in what was one of his breakout tournaments. The Greek has evolved significantly since.

Thiem Looking to Make A Mark Outside of Clay

Dominic Thiem had a good first half of the year. He won the Indian Wells Masters 1000, defeating Roger Federer in the final, followed by a strong clay court season being a French Open finalist, and winning the ATP 500 at Barcelona. The Austrian did well to defeat Federer, Djokovic and Nadal in the first half of the season.

The Austrian’s season took a negative turn with first round losses at Wimbledon and the US Open. In addition, he was troubled by illness and injuries which added insult to injury.

Thiem has looked better this week, returning to form and confidence, and has done well to defeat Andy Murray and make a spirited comeback in the semi- finals against Karen Khachanov. Qualifying for the finals in Beijing also ensured him a spot at the Tour End Finals in London next month.

Tsitsipas Inching Closer to London

Rising Greek Star Stefanos Tsitsipas had a phenomenal run to end 2018. He carried forward his form into 2019, winning ATP 250 tournaments, and being a semi- finalist at the Australian Open defeating Roger Federer en route.

Tsitsipas continued his strong form through the clay season, defeating Rafael Nadal to make the finals of the Madrid 1000 and losing a classic fourth round encounter to Stanislas Wawrinka at the French Open.

However similar to Thiem, his form has dipped through the grass and hard court season and is also looking at a revival here this as he gets closer to cementing his spot for the London Tour Finals.

It has been an impressive week for Tsitsipas in Beijing as he defeated defending champion Nikoloz Basilashvili, John Isner and Alexander Zverev en route the finals.

Thiem v Tsitsipas Predictions & Tips

A very exciting match on the cards, with a lot to look forward to. Not a lot to choose in this clash of single handed backhands between two promising stars of the game. It will not be a surprise if either player wins, and it will be down to the better player on the given day.
