Alexander Zverev v Jeremy Chardy Fritz Head to Head
The pair have four times before, with Zverev leading their head-to-head series by three matches to one. Chardy won their first encounter, in Kuala Lumpur in 2015, but Zverev has won their last three matches, including their most recent battle at the Australian Open in January, although it took him five sets to do so.
Can Zverev End Disappointing Year on a High?
Zverev has had a disappointing season. A year that started full of promise after the German won the ATP finals in London last November, has largely failed to live up to expectations, due to a combination of struggles with form and off-the-court problems in the early part of the season.
There have been some high points – he won his 11th career title in Geneva, reached the quarter-finals at Roland Garros, and was a semi-finalist in Hamburg and, again, last week in Beijing. However, there have also been too many early losses in events, and defeats at the hands of lower ranked players, for his liking.
He will be eager to find some late season form as he prepares to head to London next month to defend his ATP crown.

Chardy Finding Greatest Success in Doubles
It has been ten years since world number 71 Chardy won his solitary ATP title, the 2009 Stuttgart Open. He has had more success in doubles though, reaching the French Open final in June with partner Fabrice Martin, and winning the events in Marseille and Estoril with the same man. He also won the tournament in Rotterdam in February, this time partnered by Henri Kontinen of Finland.
On the singles front, his best result in 2019 came right at the start of the year, when he reached the semi-final in Brisbane. Apart from that, a quarter final in Hamburg is his only other performance of note.
However, he beat Kyle Edmund of Great Britain comparatively easily in his first round match on Monday, beating a man ranked almost 30 places above him in straight sets.
Zverev v Chardy Predictions & Tips
Zverev is the odds-on favourite to win this match at 19/100, whilst Chardy is priced at 19/10. Zverev may not have been in his best form this year, but he showed signs last week in Beijing that he is getting back towards his best, and should have too much for a man who is more at home on a doubles’ court these days.
Tip: Zverev to win in straight sets: 4/5 (888Sport)
