Alexander Zverev v Andrey Rublev Head to Head
Alexander Zverev leads the head to head against Rublev with two wins to Rublev’s none. They last played in 2017 at the 2017 China Open.
Zverev Holding Steady After Forgetful Season
Zverev ended last season on a high, thwarting Novak Djokovic to win the ATP Finals. Understandably he was expected to reach new heights in this season. The German started his season at the Australian Open. He suffered an upset in the round of 16 at the hands of Milos Ranoic. Despite this disappointment, he regained his career-best rank of No. 3 in the world in January. He last held the third spot in the world back in 2017.
Zverev lost the final of the ATP 500 Acapulco Open to Nick Kyrgios is February, but had little joy in the following couple of months. He managed to win just four matches in his next six ATP events, failing to win more than one match in any of them. His best result in the months, before Roland Garros, was a quarterfinal at Madrid Masters and the ATP 250 Geneva title.
He had a good showing at Roland Garros, making the quarterfinals, beating Fabio Fognini, but lost to Djokovic. While he made the quarterfinals of the Halle Open, he failed spectacularly at Wimbledon, going out in the very first round to Jiri Vesley of Croatia.
A Lukewarm showing in the following months brought his ranking down to the No. 7 spot by August. The 22-year-old has since regained some of his form and confidence, making his way to the round of 16 at US Open. He also lost in the semifinals of the China Open last week to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Rublev Puts Injury Woes Aside To Rise Again
After achieving his career-best ranking of 31 midway through last season, Andrey Rublev had injury problems that once again brought him down to No. 84 by the start of this season.
A promising start to the season, Rublev lost in his first round at Australian Open. The fall down the rankings meant he had to play qualifiers for Masters events, which seemed to hamper him even more. He failed to reach deep into most ATP events. The Russian youngster was forced to skip Roland Garros due to injury problems to his wrist.
The 21-year-old returned well before Wimbledon, but once again had a disappointing showing, losing in the second round to Sam Querrey. Rublev finally had some joy when he reached the final of the Hamburg Open, ending as the runner-up to Nikoloz Basilashvili. He managed to get over the two first round defeats in the next two tournaments and finally got his season on track.
Rublev displayed his talent making the quartefinals of the next two events, including the Cincinnati Masters where he beat Nikoloz Basilashvili, Stan Wawrinka and Roger Federer in consecutive matches. Daniil Medvedev beat him the quarterfinals. This gave him confidence to get back to his usual self on court. Even though he lost in the round of 16 at US Open to Matteo Berrettini, he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas, Gilles Simon and Nick Kyrgios in his first three matches.
Rublev’s way back into form has pushed him back up to world No. 33, after having fallen as low as No. 115 in the season.
Zverev v Rublev Tips and Predictions
Zverev will be the slight favourite going into this match. He has lost to Rublev, but they have not played for two years now. The German looks to be back in some goo form after a very disappointing season. he will be determined to qualify for the ATP FInals to defend his title.
Rublev is a player that has enormous potential. At just 21-years of age, he has his entire career in front of him and you can expect him to keep improving with every year. With three top 10 wins just this year against Federer, Tsitsipas and Dominic Thiem, he has shown that he can beat the very best on his day.
Expect a tight match with some pure shot-making and two good players coming back into form.
