Six tournaments played. Six finals reached. Now that’s a record to be proud of for Daniil Medvedev.
In the form of his life by some distance, Medvedev registered a straight-set win over Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Shanghai Masters semi-finals to enter another title-decider. Following on from his appearances in the final at the Washington Open, Rogers Cup, Cincinnati Masters, US Open and St. Petersburg Open, Medvedev made it six finals in a row as a result.
In doing so, he also entered his ninth final of the year, four more than the next best that five others have managed. It also improves his win-loss record to 58-17 this year and his losses since the start of the US Open series in Washington having come to just Nick Kyrgios and Rafael Nadal.

The Russian took down Australian Open semi-finalist Tsitsipas 7-6, 7-5 and will now face the winner of the match between Matteo Berrettini and Alexander Zverev for the title.
Medvedev faced five break points in the match and was broken just once in an encounter that lasted 96 minutes before he came through to the final. He had earlier sent the 10th seeded Fabio Fognini packing in straight sets too.
There were no breaks of serves in the first set although Medvedev did face three break-points in one game. He won five points in succession in that ninth game and both players held serve after that to take it to the tie-breaker which Medvedev edged.
An early break of serve for Medvedev in the second allowed him to serve for the match at 5-4 but he dropped his serve at that stage. Tsitsipas dropped serve yet again and this time, Medvedev completed the win to enter the Shanghai final.
Tsitsipas had confirmed his ATP Finals berth last week with a finals appearance at the China Open. On the other hand, Medvedev is gunning for the third spot after Federer’s early exit from the Shanghai Masters.
