Andy Murray v Ugo Humbert Head to Head
The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 32 year old Scot, and Humbert, eleven years his junior.
Murray’s First Semi-Final Since 2017
This is Murray’s first semi-final since Roland Garros in 2017, and represents a major milestone for the Scot, as he continues his recovery from the hip injuries that threatened to bring a premature end to his career. He had to work to get here.
All seemed to be plain sailing when he led Marius Copil by a set and 5 – 2 in their quarter final on Friday. However, then he got nervous on serve, allowed the Romanian to break back and force a tie-break, where Murray squandered a match point, before his opponent levelled the match.
Fortunately he was able to rally in the third, and produced the decisive break, and then served out for the match.
The win also marked another major step in his recovery, as this is the first time this year he has won three successive matches in a week, having beaten Belgian wildcard Kimmer Coppejans in the first round, and the Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas.

Humbert, Second Career ATP Semi-Final
NextGen player Humbert has had his greatest successes on the Challenger circuit this year, where he won the events in Cherbourg and Istanbul, bringing his number of career titles to nine. The 21 year old is still green on the senior tour, but he did have his best ever run at a Grand Slam at Wimbledon, where he reached the fourth round before losing to Novak Djokovic.
This is his second semi-final of the year, having also reached the last four in Rotterdam in February.
He has had an impressive week. First he beat the Slovak player Jozef Kovalik comfortably in the first round, before thrashing David Goffin, dumping the number one seed out of the tournament for the loss of just three games in front of his own Belgian fans.
His quarter-final with the number five seed, Guido Pella, was much tougher, a marathon affair that was only ended when Humbert secured a break of serve in the third set and was able to hang on to it.
Murray v Humbert Predictions & Tips
Murray is the favourite to win this match at 17/35, whilst Humbert is priced at 2/1. This will be a major test for Murray, physically as well as mentally, being the first time since his comeback that he has played four matches in a week. Humbert has proved this week that he is no respecter of reputations, but, if the Scot can find the energy, and the fighting spirit he has been known for throughout his career, he should win in the end.
