Cilic Still In Pursuit Of First Title Of 2019
Former World No.3 Marin Cilic is still seeking a first ATP title of 2019 and this could be his best chance yet. Fresh from picking up his 500th match-win in the second round earlier this week, the Croat withstood a brave fightback from Frenchman Jeremy Chardy to win in a third set tiebreak.
Cilic has struggled significantly this season dropping as low as No.30 in the world at one point (currently World No.24) and has an underwhelming 20-16 record in 2019. He hasn’t beaten a top-10 player all year and remarkably, this is his first semifinal of the season.
The former US Open champion has won back-to-back titles in the Russian capital and hasn’t lost at this tournament since his debut in 2007. The experienced Croatian could really use with a title-winning run this week, but he needs to sail past hard-hitting Russian youngster in Andrey Rublev.
