Roger Federer v Peter Gojowczyk Head to Head
These two players have already played each other on two occasions with Federer winning both times and doing that in straight sets. Both meetings have come in the past two years, including one at the Indian Wells Masters earlier this year which Federer won 6-1, 7-5.
Federer Looking to Shrug Off Frustration
Four tournament wins in the year for Federer already but since winning at the Halle Open in June, he has faced a few disappointments. The first game in the form of that epic Wimbledon final loss where he held a couple of match-points but even after that, a second round defeat to Andrey Rublev in Cincinnati, quarter-final loss at the US Open and another at the last-eight stage at the Shanghai Masters would have all added to the frustration.
The season still has a couple of tournaments to go after this one for Federer and those are biggies. A Paris Masters next week will be followed by the year-ending ATP Finals and Federer would be hoping to get back into his best rhythm before that. An early loss here might not augur too well going into those two and what he would therefore want is a clinical showing against qualifier opponent

Surprise Entry into Main Draw for Peter Gojowczyk
Gojowczyk is a former top-40 player but has had the worst year of his career in a long, long time. In fact his win-loss ratio of 19/32 is his lowest of any season and that he managed to qualify for the main draw by winning back to back straight encounters is a surprise in its own.
After all Gojowczyk was on a seven-match losing streak before those two victories, while the last time he won a match at the main draw of an ATP tournament came even before that at Washington. In fact that showing came out of the blue for Gojowczyk, who lost his qualifier, made it through to the main draw as a lucky loser and then overcame the likes of Andrey Rublev, Alex de Minaur, Milos Raonic and Kyle Edmund to reach the semifinal.
It took Daniil Medvedev to send him on his way. In indoor courts, Gojowczyk has a 5-4 record this year and he would live in the hope of a big, big upset here. It might only remain a hope.
Federer v Gojowczyk Predictions & Tips
Federer looks like he won’t just win this one in straight sets, but might not concede too many games either. Looking at an under 17.5 games market.
Tip: Under 17.5 games in the match: 11/10 11/10 at 888Sport
