Novak Djokovic v Corentin Moutet Head to Head

This is the first time that the world number one Djokovic and 97th-ranked Moutet will be facing off at the highest level.

Djokovic Hoping to Shrug off Shanghai Surprise

Since winning the Wimbledon title, Djokovic has won one title and missed out on the final of three other tournaments – getting ousted at the quarterfinal stage in Shanghai. For most players, even in the top 10, those sound like acceptable results but it’s the world number one we are talking about here, a champion player who has seen some stellar runs.

Which is why, going into the ATP Finals, Djokovic will have one aim – to go one better than what he had done last year in Paris. After a humdinger of a semifinal win over Roger Federer in 2018, Djokovic looked all set to claim the title but went down to Karen Khachanov, a surprise finalist.

What’s interesting to note here is that this will be Djokovic’s first match indoors this year, having featured in 11 last season. 10 of those 11, however, came in Paris and O2 in London, which means he can get close to that mark if he gets to the final at both tournaments. A straightforward win in this opener would be a great way to get the momentum going.

Moutet Has a Mountain to Climb

It’s very early days of his career for Moutet and despite having yet to set the top competitions ablaze, Moutet will be reasonably pleased with what he has achieved so far. With a top ranking of 80th in his career, Moutet has won two Challengers this year, but as far as main draw victories are concerned, there had been exactly three before the Paris Masters this year.

Two of them came in Paris as well – at the French Open – before he shocked Grigor Dimitrov in the first round at Wimbledon. Since then, however, Moutet has had an underwhelming time.

He’s played in five tournaments on the men’s circuit in this period and lost in the first round at all of them. A win in the qualifiers was then followed by a loss at the hands of fellow Frenchman, Jeremy Chardy but he then qualified to the main draw as a lucky loser. A shock victory over Dusan Lajovic should give him some more confidence but beating two Serbs in a row, especially one who is ranked top of the charts, will take some doing.

Novak Djokovic v Corentin Moutet Predictions & Tips

Djokovic could come out all guns blazing and we are probably even looking at a very straightforward, straight-set win, one that sees the Frenchman win barely next to nothing games-wise.
