Kiki Bertens v Dayana Yastremska Head to Head
Bertens and Yastremska have met on two occasions and both those matches took place in the 2019 season. The Dutch powerhouse won both meetings in straight sets, at the China Open in Beijing and the WTA Elite in Zhuhai respectively.
Bertens tied the knot with coach Remko de Rijke
It might have gone slightly unnoticed among the tennis world, but Kiki Bertens capped a year-long engagement with a late November wedding to coach Remko de Rijke.
The Dutchwoman also celebrated a second consecutive Top 10 season after a spectacular year in which she won two titles. Her success in St. Petersburg was swiftly followed by the biggest triumph in her career when she claimed the Mutua Madrid Open without dropping a set. She beat four Grand Slam champions en route to that victory in the Spanish capital including Simona Halep whom she swatted aside in the final.
Bertens was an alternate at the WTA Finals in Shenzhen and she was the only player to defeat World No.1 Ashleigh Barty in the tournament at the Round Robin stage. However, she was forced to retire in her match against Belinda Bencic after playing non-stop schedule during the last two months of the 2019 season.
The Dutchwoman will now hope for instant success at the Brisbane International where she doesn’t have plenty of good memories. She has not advanced past the second round in Queensland’s capital and she faces a tricky opener this year against Yastremska.
Yastremska Will Be A Force To Be Reckoned With in 2020
At 19, Dayana Yastremska is nine years younger than her counterpart Bertens, but she has been a breath of fresh air on the WTA main tour. Yastremska had a breakthrough year in 2019 where she won two titles and 35 matches overall, finishing at career-high ranking of World No.22.
It was a jaw-dropping statistic especially when you consider she was ranked outside the World’s top-50 not so long before the 2019 season kicked off. The 19-year-old from Odessa also snatched her country’s national honor and player of the year award at the end of the year, ahead of Elina Svitolina who is currently Ukraine’s No.1.
Yastremska who is renowned for being stubbornly competitive, possesses a fearless offensive game and she has also added Sascha Bajin – the former hitting partner of Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka – to her coaching team.
Kiki Bertens v Dayana Yastremska Predictions & Tips
Bertens does not have the best of records in Brisbane, but that is partly because she has played more frequently in Auckland. The Dutchwoman is no longer the one-dimensional, one-court wonder. She has proven to be a more all-round player on all surfaces with title wins in Cincinnati and St. Petersburg. Yastremka is a slight favorite among the bookies to win and it will be intriguing to see how her partnership with Bajin materializes. But there is real value in backing Bertens to win here. She has beaten Yastremska in the last two meetings and has equal measure of the Ukrainian’s power.
