Rafael Nadal v Alex de Minaur Head to Head

Rafa has won both their previous two matches, including one at the 2019 Australian Open where he crushed Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 in the third round. In 2018, they had also faced off at Wimbledon where stunningly, Nadal had won by the same scoreline.

Nadal Shocked by Goffin

Spain were heavy favourites to make it to the ATP Cup semifinal and with some ease. However, Rafael Nadal’s shock loss at the hands of David Goffin suddenly sent shockwaves through the Spanish team before the doubles pairing of Pablo Carreno-Busta and Nadal managed to win the Super Tie-Breaker and pull them through to the last-four.

That won’t take away from the fact Nadal was beaten in straight sets by Goffin even after he had broken back in the second set and levelled it off. Before that, there had been no respite for the opponents as Nadal scythed through Nikoloz Basilashvili, Pablo Cuevas and Yoshihito Nishioka without too much trouble.

It was only in the Goffin match that Nadal struggled with his first serves and Goffin took full toll of that. Nadal had incidentally started off his season with a triumph at Mubadala where he defeated Karen Khachanov and Stefanos Tsitsipas to lift the trophy. With five matches won to one defeat, that Goffin loss could possibility be put down to a rare blip in focus.

Alex de Minaur Has Major Scalps but Lost his Quarters Match

While de Minaur will be hoping to emulate Goffin, lighting usually doesn’t strike the same place twice. And secondly, de Minaur himself is coming off a shock defeat at the hands of Great Britain’s Daniel Evans.

After been rested for their match against Greece, de Minaur returned to the squad for the quarterfinal against Great Britain and lost his match to Evans. However before that, de Minaur had come off two sterling victories in the competition – a three-setter against Alexander Zverev and another against Denis Shapovalov.

So going into this Nadal match, there has been a mixed showing of form from the Aussie. He is a solid talent and a player tipped to be one for the future and if he can register a win against Nadal here, it would be a huge boost to his confidence heading into the Australian Open.

Rafael Nadal v Alex de Minaur Predictions & Tips

It’s not often one sees Nadal lose a match to that low-ranked a player as Goffin was but to expect him to go down twice in a row will be expecting the stars. He is the favourite and should win straight sets.

Tip: Nadal to win in straight sets: 4/6 (Click here to get these odds with bet365)
