Stefanos Tsitsipas v Philipp Kohlschreiber Head to Head

Greek Next Gen Stefanos Tsitsipas and German Phil Kohlschreiber have met twice before in their careers. The meetings were in 2018 on the outfoor hard courts of Dubai and at the indoor courts in Stockholm.

Tsitipas emerged victorious on both occasions.

Strong Opening Match Showing by Tsitsipas

Greek star Stefanos Tsistipas got his 2020 Australian Open campaign off to a flier against Italian Salvatore Caruso with a convincing straight sets win 6-0, 6-2, 6-3.

The 2019 year-end ATP Tour Finals winner looked in indifferent form at the inaugural ATP Cup where he lost two of his singles matches in the group stages. However, in his opening match against Italian Caruso, Tsitsipas seemed to be returning to his form at the end of 2019.

Tsitsipas was a surprise semifinalist here at the Australian Open last year where he defeated Swiss maestro Roger Federer in the fourth round en route. The Greek has said he feels more mature this time around and hopes to emulate his 2019 run and/or better that too.

Seeded sixth at this year’s Open, Tsitsipas has been earmarked as one of the stars of the next generation to watch out for.

Can the Veteran German Spring an Upset?

German Philipp Kohlscreiber has been on the tour for just under 15 years, and has been a force to reckon with for a considerable amount of time.

A member of the final 16 at the majors more than ten times in his career, Kohlschreiber was ranked as high as number 16 in the world in the Summer of 2012. A gritty player with strong groundstokes off both wings, the German’s game has been on the decline for the last two seasons or so.

Kohlschreiber is currently ranked just within the top 80 in the world and at 36 years of age, is well aware that another sub-optimal year may well mark the end of this understate tennis veteran.

The German will be looking for a good start to get his campaign going, in familiar circumstances.

Stefanos Tsitsipas v Philipp Kohlschreiber Predictions & Tips

Despite Kohlschreiber seeming low on match practice, the German will be hoping to put up a strong performance. Having caused trouble to higher ranked players in major tournaments, Kohlschreiber is not one to discounted or underestimated, and Tsitsipas will be well aware.

An exciting tussle on the cards between two single handed backhands; while Tsitsipas starts as favorite, Kohlscriber can upset the Greek applecart that currently is full of confidence. Tsitsipas will be well aware of this and thus play with a little caution against Kohlschreiber.

Expect Tsitsipas to win in four sets.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in four sets: 11/4 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
