Madison Keys v Arantxa Rus Head to Head
Keys and Rus have never played each other before.
Keys Cruised In Opener
Madison Keys has a terrific record in first round of Grand Slams. She maintained that streak by demolishing Russia’s Daria Kasatkina in a 57-minute cameo of power tennis to advance to the second round for the sixth time in her last seven trips to Melbourne.
Keys has now won an impressive 21 straight first round Grand Slam matches.
The American will have less than 24 hours to prepare before her next assignment since most of the first round matches on the outdoor courts were postponed following a rain interrupted Monday.
The 24-year-old has a solid 18-7 record at the Australian Open with her best appearance being a semifinal run in 2015 as an unseeded player. She has already made a great start to the year by reaching the final of the Brisbane International, and with momentum and confidence at an all-time high, nobody will want to draw her.
Rus, Former Australian Open Junior champion
Arantxa Rus was finally able to gain automatic entry at the Australian Open after taking off the burden of playing qualifiers. Rus was in sensational form on the ITF circuit in 2019, winning ten titles and getting herself into the top-100 yet again.
The Dutchwoman had shown a glimpse of her potential over 10 years ago when she won the Australian Open Junior title, but it was until the 2011 French Open when she became popular to the tennis world after stunning former World No.1 Kim Clijsters in the second round.
Rus will need to play out of her mind if she is to knock out the number ten seed Keys. The Dutch left-hander does not have the best of records at the Australian Open despite winning the aforementioned junior’s crown in 2008. She had made only three main draw appearances before this year.
Madison Keys v Arantxa Rus Predictions & Tips
Keys fired an incredible 29 winners in her win against Kasatkina. She is one of very of few players on the WTA tour that blends power with accuracy from the baseline in perfect fashion. It would be a monumental upset if Rus wins here, which in hindsight is unlikely to happen.
