Elina Svitolina v Lauren Davis Head to Head
The pair have met four times on the tour so far. Svitolina has won on all four occasions. The pair haven’t met for over two years now. Their last meeting was in Dubai in 2017.

The 25-year-old had openly stated at the start of this season that becoming the first Ukrainian woman to win a Grand Slam singles title was her ultimate goal. She has long been hailed as a future Grand Slam champion, but until last year, she had never reached even the semi-finals at a major. But last year’s last four appearances at the Wimbledon and the US Open will surely give her the belief that she can go beyond that as well.
She would be hoping that a change in the backroom staff will help her improve with her record at the later stages of the tournament. Last year she was knocked out in one final, five semis, and six quarter-finals. Now with former men’s number eight in the world Marcos Baghdatis on her coaching team, she would be hoping to add to her 13 singles titles this season.
In the first round this week, she won in straight sets against Great Britain’s Katie Boulter.
American Davis in Decent Form at the Start of the Season
The American has won four out of the six matches played in the new season so far. One of her victories was against world number 41 Magda Linette. She also pushed former world number one Caroline Wozniacki to three sets in Auckland.
2019 was a decent year for the American. After falling out of the top 200 in the rankings at one point, she came back to end the year at 64. Mixing ITF and WTA events seemed to work for her as results improved. She got relative success and built her confidence back after a disappointing 2018.
Davis started last year impressively by reaching the semi-finals at the Newport Beach open and reached two ITF events, winning one. She also made it to the third round at Wimbledon, coming through qualifiers.

Svitolina will start this match as a favorite. She is extremely consistent in the early rounds at events, and her main issues start at the business end. Davis, on the other hand, would need an off day from her opponent to cause trouble. Svitolina should progress comfortably.
