Serena Williams v Anastasija Sevastova Head to Head

This will be the second meeting between Serena and Sevastova with the American having won their previous outing in the semifinal of the 2018 US Open. She had dropped just three games in that one.

Williams Coming off a Tight Finish

Having opted to participate in the Fed Cup after her early, shock loss at the US Open, Serena Williams was slow off the blocks in her opener against Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko. She finally managed to win it 7-6, 7-6, but not before she was broken twice, and having hit just six winners as compared to 19 that her opponent hit.

Such was the closeness of the contest, Williams won a total of 80 points in the match while her opponent clinched 77, making it a match which could have gone either way.

Now that Williams has got used to the conditions though, and probably having also shrugged some of her rust, expect her to purr along more smoothly in this one. Obviously what would also make a huge difference is the quality of opponent and on current form one would like to think Ostapenko has bit of an edge over Sevastova.

Sevastova Blown Away by Kenin

Not that too many expected Sevastova to win her match against the Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin but the manner in which she was beaten, routed, was not as expected either.

Sevastova was crushed 2-6, 2-6 by Kenin, got broken four times without return with her opponent winning 50% more points than she did all match. What adds to Sevastova’s problems is she is yet to win a match this season, having also lost in the first round at Brisbane, Adelaide and then at the Australian Open.

To be fair to Sevastova, her opponents have been stiffer, higher-pedigreed ones than her own self in three of the four matches but her previous defeat to Kenin seems to suggest she is some way away from getting things going in her direction.

Serena Williams v Anastasija Sevastova Predictions & Tips

Williams is a humongous favourite in this one with bet365 offering 1/8 for her win. We could be looking at another straight-set rout of Sevastova, and that by itself is offering 4/9, while the better option could be the number of games in the encounter.

Tip: Less than 19.5 games in the match: 8/11 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
