Ugo Humbert v Marcos Giron Predictions & Preview

43rd-ranked Ugo Humbert will take on Marcos Giron in their second round match at the New York Open, and they will be facing off for the first time. Humbert is currently at his career best ranking, which followed his title win at the Auckland Open but that there was a first round loss at the Australian Open that came after that.

This was followed by another shocker, a first round, straight-set loss at the hands of Feliciano Lopez in Montpellier and he will now hope he can avoid another banana skin. Giron may be 113th in the world at the moment but registered a straight-set win over Jack Sock – albeit a Sock looking to make a return to competitive tennis.

Earlier, Giron had made it to the semifinal at the Bendigo Challenger as well, but hasn’t done too well otherwise this season. Humbert, if he can shrug off his rustiness since he hasn’t won a match in four weeks, should be an overwhelming favourite to win this.

Miomir Kecmanovic v Paolo Lorenzi Predictions & Preview

The 116th-ranked Paolo Lorenzi has a task on his hand when he takes on Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic, but the good news for him is as recently as the previous US Open he had defeated the Serbian. Lorenzi had taken five sets but come through in that first round encounter.

The trouble for the 38-year-old Italian Lorenzi is he failed to qualify for the Australian Open and lost in the first round at both, the Bangkok Challenger and the Pune Open. He finally made the main draw of this New York Open with a couple of straight-set wins and won his first main draw match by edging out Danilo Petrovic of Serbia.

Now, he faces another Serb but of a much better tennis pedigree. 20-year-old Kecmanovic has already broken into the top 50 and had earlier this season, made it to the semifinal at the Doha Open. A couple of sub-par results followed but expect him to build on his 6-4, 6-2 win over Tommy Paul in the first round.

Andreas Seppi v Steve Johnson Predictions & Preview

This Seppi-Johnson rivalry dates back to 2013 and since then this will be their fifth match. Johnson leads 3-1, but Seppi had won their meeting at the Australian Open last year. And with their rankings close enough, Johnson is 75th to Seppi’s 98th, this could be a match to watch out.

Seppi needed a tough, gruelling three-setter against Damir Dzumhur to make it to the second round – and it felt like the result was replicated in the Johnson-Tennys Sandgren match. Both encounters went to a tie-breaker in the final set. Expecting another three-setter.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 7/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
