Andrey Rublev v Filip Krajinovic Head to Head

These two have played twice before this including once at the 2019 Davis Cup. Rublev had won that match in straight sets after having lost their opening match in 2017 at the Moscow Open also in two.

Been a Year to Beckon for Rublev

Rublev’s winning ways have continued to impress and he is easily one of the favourites to win the title heading into the business end of this tournament. After a rare loss in the fourth round of the 2020 Australian Open, Rublev is back to his winning ways and made his way to the quarterfinals on the back of a 7-5, 6-3 drubbing of Alexander Bublik.

Before that too, there was a straight-set win in the first round against Nikoloz Basilashvili, another dangerous opponent and that took his season record to 14-2 on win-loss. Discount his performances in exhibition tournaments and it’s 13-1 this season after having won titles at Doha and Adelaide.

And with a career-best ranking of 15 under his belt already, another solid performance in these next three days will see him climb up the ladder even higher.

Krajinovic Showing Improvement

The Serb world number 39 loves his clay having won 19 of the 24 matches he played on it last year and finishing with a 51-12 win-loss record on it in 2017 across the various tiers of tennis. However, he has been showing an affinity towards indoors too with a 10-5 record last year and 5-1 this season.

He had made the semifinals at the Montpellier Open last week where the eventual champion got past him. And then this week he has already won a couple of more matches, with Krajinovic having no trouble dispatching wild-card Tallon Griekspoor in the first round and then sending Vasek Pospisil out in straight sets as well.

Pospisil had come into the match on the back of a straight-set win over Daniil Medvedev, and the way Krajinovic dismantled his game in the second round makes for an interesting quarterfinal clash.
