Gael Monfils v Dan Evans Head to Head
This will be the second match between Monfils and Evans. In their first encounter, at the Dubai Open in 2017, Monfils had gotten past Evans in three sets.
Monfils on a Six-Match Streak
After winning the Montpellier Open, Monfils has now won both his first two rounds here in Rotterdam with much ease. No better way to begin in the tournament one is defending but the real test begins now as Monfils stacks up the miles on his legs, having played six matches in eight days.
However, if he is getting tired, he showed no such signs in his previous win either, as he demolished fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon 6-4, 6-1 to clinch his last-eight spot. This was after he had registered a 6-3, 6-2 win over Joao Sousa in his opener.
Monfils has lost just two matches this season, and both came against much higher-ranked opponents; Novak Djokovic and Dominic Thiem. So while exhaustion will be an obvious factor, the confidence he takes forward from the season so far should go a long way in getting him through.
Evans Quietly Going About His Business
He hasn’t been spoken about too much in recent times in the same breath as some of the other Brit tennis players, probably because of his year-long ban but Evans is slowly inching his way to the top. He started the week ranked 33rd in the world, and having reached the quarterfinal here, should break into a new career-best.
What needs to be highlighted is his showing this year has had him win eight of his 11 matches, with only a second round loss at the hands of Yoshihito Nishioka standing out like a sore thumb. Other than that, the defeats have come against Grigor Dimitrov at the ATP Cup where he also won three other matches for his team, and Andrey Rublev in the Adelaide International quarterfinal.
At Rotterdam, he has already defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber and Karen Khachanov and now enters this encounter with a one day of rest. Surely should work in his favour.
Gael Monfils v Dan Evans Predictions & Tips
Monfils is 4/9 to win this match, and expectedly so given the difference in their rankings but the match could get a lot closer than that. Going for the games market in this which could come into play especially if the match goes into the third set.
Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
