Alison Riske v Ons Jabeur Head to Head

This will be the second encounter between Ons Jabeur and Alison Riske with the latter having won their qualifier at the Miami Open in 2018 in straight sets.

Jabeur at Career-High after Australian Open Exploits

Ranked 81st at the start of the season, Jabeur then fell to 85th but a stunning showing at the Australian Open has seen her rank improve to her career-best of 45th. And while making it to her maiden quarterfinal at the Australian Open itself deserved a big pat on her back, the underlying aspect of that campaign was the opponents she defeated to get to the last eight.

At every stage of the tournament she was faced with some stiff opposition on paper. She began with an opening round rout of Great Britain’s Johanna Konta, then defeated Caroline Garcia in the second, sent Caroline Wozniacki to her retirement in the third before getting past China’s Wang Qiang in the fourth. Qiang had earlier stunned Serena Williams herself and was on cloud nine prior to her meeting with Jabeur.

Now, the Tunisian enters this tournament having played at the lower levels of the Fed Cup and winning all her four singles matches. As far as form and confidence goes, she shouldn’t have too many issues in her opener here. Can she get into a good rhythm from very early though?

Riske Coming off a 20-Day Break

Riske’s not featured in a lot of competitions this year so far, but her quality of play has been for everyone to see. There was a quarterfinal at the Brisbane International to kick-start the year, before Riske went on to make it to the fourth round at the Australian Open.

There, she had beaten Wang Yafan and Julia Goerges before she met her match in Ash Barty, but even in that encounter, she made the Aussie top-ranked player sweat by takinng her to the third set.

The American hasn’t played since then, having skipped the Fed Cup after the USA went with Sofia Kenin and Serena Williams for it. She didn’t feature last week either which could lead to question-marks over her rustiness but just like she had begun the season with a bang, expect her to shrug off that potential issue with style.

Alison Riske v Ons JabeurPredictions & Tips

Jabeur starts off as a favourite here with 8/11 for her win, but it might not be a straightforward victory. We could see a three-setter or a very fighting two sets in this one.
