Auger-Aliassime, Beaten Finalist in Rotterdam
Auger-Aliassime comes into the tournament in Marseille in good form, having got to the final in Rotterdam in Sunday. only to lose to Gael Monfils, who was winning his second successive ATP event.
That means it is now four ATP competition finals in the past year for the teenager, and, although he has yet to win one, it is surely a matter of when, and not if, he will get his hand on a trophy.
And, although he ultimately fell at the final hurdle in Rotterdam, he can still take heart from his performances there, with indications that he is back to his best after the ankle injury that brought a premature end to his 2019 season.
That will give him confidence because he had struggled initially this season, losing in the second round in Adelaide and Montpellier, and dumped out of the Australian Open by the Latvian Ernesto Gulbis at the first time of asking.
Travaglia, Challenger Form Has Boosted World Ranking
Italian Travaglia has been a pro for nine years and has reached a career high ranking of 74, mainly due to his form on the Challenger tour where he has won four titles, two of them in 2019, in Francavilla, Italy, and Sopot, Poland.
And he has already made one final this year, beaten in Bendigo, Australia, by the American Steve Johnson.
After that event he moved to the Australian Open but, like his opponent on Tuesday, went out in the first round, this time to Christian Garin of Chile.
He was also beaten in the first round of the ATP event in Pune by Ilya Ivashka of Belarus, but, back on the Challenger tour in Bengaluru, had more success, getting to the semi-finals before losing to Benjamin Bonzi of France.
