Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v Anett Kontaveit Head to Head

Anett Kontaveit leads the series 3-2, but it was Pavlyuchenkova who won their most recent encounter in the first round of the Adelaide International.

Pavlyuchenkova Has An Appalling Record in Dubai

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is 28 years old, but this actually her 12th successive season on the senior tour. Although her longevity is impressive to say the least, she hasn’t quite translated her junior success on the main tour.

However, the Russian still remains one of the WTA’s dangerous floaters, and is one of a handful of women to have reached the quarterfinal of each of the four majors.

Pavlyuchenkova is playing in Dubai for the tenth straight season, but her record on the Emirates’ second city is astoundingly woeful. She was 6-9 overall in Dubai before Tuesday’s topsy-turvy comeback win against the defending champion Belinda Bencic.

That win over the Swiss lady ended a run of seven successive first round defeats and puts her in the second round for the first time since 2010 –  the year she went on to reach the quarterfinal at the event.

Kontaveit Has Enjoyed A Decent Start to 2020

Anett Kontaveit achieved a career-best result in a Grand Slam at the 2020 Australian Open when she reached the last eight, becoming the first Estonian to reach the quarterfinals in Melbourne. Unfortunately, she was comprehensively outclassed by Simona Halep.

Kontaveit’s excellent first half of the 2019 season saw her hit a career-high ranking of World No.14 in April, after making the semifinals of the Miami Open. But lack of consistency and a severe illness which she suffered last September curtailed her season, and she dropped down almost 20 places to outside the top-30.

But the break seems to have had a positive impact, and she is seemingly better than ever judging by how imperious she was in Melbourne during the first week.

Kontaveit garnered just her second main draw victory in Dubai in her three previous visits after beating Romania’s Sorana Cirstea on Tuesday evening.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v Anett Kontaveit Predictions & Tips

Lengthy rallies will be at a minimum as both players prefer power than patience. Pavlyuchenkova won their recent match in Adelaide in straight sets, but Kontaveit’s match fitness was a big question mark having missed a huge chunk of autumn season in 2019. Expect a flurry of winners and unforced errors here, and I think this will be marginally close than their last tussle in South Australia.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 8/5 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
