Jennifer Brady v Alison Riske Head to Head
The pair have played each other twice before. Riske won their semi-final in Doha last year in straight sets, but Brady got her revenge at the 125k event in Indian Wells a few weeks later.
Brady, Surprise Semi-Finalist in Dubai
World number 52 Brady has earned a reputation as a dangerous opponent who can produce big results against top players, but who struggles to string together a sequence of results. That is why she has failed to win a senior WTA title yet, although she has won four events on the junior ITF circuit.
She had already shown what she was capable of last month in Brisbane where she beat Ashleigh Barty, the world number one, but few gave her much chance last week in Dubai where she was forced to qualify. However, she came through three rounds of qualifiers to make the main draw, and promptly beat the world number six, Elina Svitolina, in straight sets.
Brady then showed her character, coming from a set down to beat last year’s French Open finalist, Marketa Vondrousova, and again to defeat the runner-up in Melbourne, Garbine Muguruza. However, she was then out-classed by Simona Halep in their semi-final.
Riske, Career High World Ranking
29 year old Riske is at a career high world ranking of 18 after more than a decade on the WTA tour, largely on the back of a fourth round appearance in Melbourne. Not only was that the furthest she had ever been in a Grand Slam, but it exceeded her best previous result in a major tournament of any kind, including Premier events.
She has, however, won two WTA titles before, in Tianjin in 2014, and Rosmalen last year, and reached two other finals in 2019, in Shenzen and Wuhan.
Apart from that performance in Melbourne, where her run was ended by Barty, she got to the third round in Brisbane, before eventually losing to Karolina Pliskova in straight sets.
Last week in Dubai though, she was beaten in the first round by Ons Jabeur, the Arab heroine of Melbourne, beaten by the Tunisian in three sets.
Jennifer Brady v Alison Riske Predictions & Tips
Despite Riske being higher ranked, there is little to choose between these two and they have an even head to head record. Brady, though, seems to be in the better form after her run in Dubai, and she is tipped to edge past her compatriot.
Tip: Brady to win in three sets: 6/4 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
