World number 14 Andrey Rublev will kick-start his Dubai Open tennis campaign with an easy opener against Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. This will be the first encounter between Andrey Rublev and the 17-year-old qualifier Lorenzo Musetti.

By dangerous proposition one isn’t just referring to an opponent like Musetti, who is green behind his ears, just 17 years in age and ranked outside the top 300. Rublev will obviously be expected to win this easily.
It’s from the perspective of this tournament, Rublev could prove to be a challenge for a few of his opposition in his section of the draw, including the second Stefanos Tsitsipas whom he is expected to play in the semifinals.
However, that is for later. Rublev, who has already won two titles this season, including one in the Middle-East – he lifted the Doha Open title before the Australian Open – will want to shrug off what happened at the previous two tournaments.
In Melbourne, he failed to find answers to the resurgent Alexander Zverev and was knocked out in the fourth round but worse followed at Rotterdam where he went down to Filip Krajinovic in their last eight encounter. Time to correct that here.

Musetti Living a Dream
A former Australian Open boys’ singles winner, Musetti played a plethora of Futures and Challengers competitions in 2019. Based on the vast number of tournaments he has featured in on clay, Musetti looks to have a preference for that surface, having finished with 6-5 on hard and indoor surfaces.
It was the first time in his career, Musetti attempted to play at the highest level this year when he featured at the Australian Open qualifiers. He impressed quite a few fans with a couple of wins in that competition before falling at the last hurdle. However, in winning both his qualifying rounds in Dubai, he has now managed to make it to the main draw of his first ever tournament.
Musetti shocked Alexei Popyrin and Evgeny Donskoy to set up this meeting with Rublev and while the going will suddenly get a lot stiffer for him, he has already done more than a lot of lads his age are doing currently.

Rublev should win this in straight sets and not surprisingly, there’s odds of 4/11 for him to do that, but the bigger challenge will be to do that in a lot of hurry. Musetti’s newness on the circuit could work in his favour and he might be able to push his opponent for a bit before Rublev takes over.
