Grigor Dimitrov v Damir Dzumhur Head to Head

Dimitrov has played won all of his four matches against Dzumhur, with each of the four matches having come in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. In each of the meetings except the previous one at Vienna last year, Dzumhur has been able to take a set off Dimitrov.

Dimitrov Hitting Another Roadblock?

Towards the end of the previous season, Dimitrov had given indications he was returning to his best when he went into the second week at the US Open. However, his 2020 has begun in a manner which suggests things are back to where they were in the 2018-19 period which saw him win no titles whatsoever.

A former world number three, he had won four in 2017 but the form disappeared and struggles began to mount.

This year has been no different so far. After kick-starting the season with two wins in the ATP Cup against Radu Albot and Dan Evans, Dimitrov lost to David Goffin there. A second round loss to Tommy Paul at the Australian Open followed soon after and then came a defeat at the hands of Gregoire Barrere in Montpellier.

At Rotterdam two weeks ago, Dimitrov shocked Denis Shapovalov but was no match for Felix Auger-Aliassime and is now 4-4 on win-loss this season.

Things No Better for Dzumhur

Much Dimitrov, it looks like Dzumhur’s best is past him. Once ranked in the top 25, he has fallen to outside the top 100 and needed to win two qualifiers to make it to the main draw here. However, having not won a single main draw match at an ATP tournament this year, it doesn’t inspire too much confidence for him.

There was a Bendigo Challenger in which he made the quarterfinal and the Montpellier Open where he won a couple of qualifiers like this one to make it the main draw but that aside he has faced multiple defeats. A first round loss in Doha, another at the Australian Open, New York Open and then at Delray Beach.

Here’s the thing though. Despite those losses, Dzumhur has fought hard in those matches. In fact, apart from that defeat in Delray Beach, all the remaining ones have come in three sets and the one in Australian Open saw him scoop a set off Stan Wawrinka too.

Grigor Dimitrov v Damir Dzumhur Predictions & Tips

Dimitrov will enter this one as a favourite but he cannot afford complacency because Dzumhur does look like a player who makes up for lack of tennis pedigree at this level with a fight that never goes away. A three-setter in the offing here.

Tip: Dimitrov to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
