Stefanos Tsitsipas v Pablo Carreno-Busta Head to Head
The pair have played each other once before on the clay of Barcelona in 2018, Tsitsipas winning their semi-final in straight sets.
Tsitsipas, A Winner in Marseille
21-year-old Tsitsipas will suddenly be feeling better about life after successfully defending his title at the Open 13 in Marseille on Sunday, beating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final.
The world number six began the year in confident mood, having won the ATP Finals in London in November. However, his year began badly at the ATP Cup. Playing for Greece against Nick Kyrgios of Australia, his courtside tirade ended up with him striking his coach and father with his racquet, and earned him a public reprimand from his watching mother.
He then went to the Australian Open, where he had reached the semi-final the previous year and was heavily tipped to do well again, only to be well beaten by Milos Raonic of Canada in straight sets in the third round.
And, in Rotterdam, where he was the second seed, he was beaten in the second round by Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia.
However, clinching his fifth ATP title in Marseille will have boosted his morale considerably.
Carreno-Busta Coming off a Semi-Final in Rotterdam
The 28 year old Spaniard has won four ATP titles, although his victory in the final of the Chengdu Open last September, when he beat Alexander Bublik, was his first for more than two years.
A US Open semi-finalist in 2017, and a quarter-finalist at Roland Garros the same year, Carreno-Busta is currently 27 in the ATP standings, although he has been ranked as high as ten in the world.
His best result of the year came a week or so ago when he got to the semi-finals in Rotterdam before losing to Auger-Aliassime, notching up 3 three set victories along the way against Adrian Mannarino, compatriot Roberto Bautista-Agut, and Jannik Sinner.
Prior to that, he lost in the first round in Montpellier, and was knocked out in the third round in Melbourne by Rafael Nadal.
Stefanos Tsitsipas v Pablo Carreno-Busta Predictions & Tips
Tsitsipas will consider that the draw could have been kinder to him in Dubai, and that he could have had an easier first round opponent than the Spaniard, who has had a week off since he last played. However, if the Greek can take the confidence he gained from defending his title in Marseille into this match, he should have enough to win.
