Venus Williams v Kaja Juvan Head to Head
The pair have never played each other once before. This will be the first meeting between the 39 year old American, and an opponent who is two decades younger than her.
Williams, Only Second Match of 2020 for the Veteran
Now 39 and ranked 64 in the world, the older Williams sibling does not play that frequently any more on the WTA Tour. Indeed, this will only be her second match of 2020, the first coming in the Australian Open where she suffered an opening round defeat at the hands of 15 year old Coco Gauff.
Many people expect her to retire soon, but she refuses to be drawn on the subject, although the days when the multi Grand Slam winner in both singles and doubles was in contention for major titles appears to be long gone.
However, she remains a popular player – much more so than her younger sister Serena, and, whilst she continues to play tennis, will draw the crowds and the television cameras.
Juvan, Teenage Slovenian Qualifier
Unlike Williams, 19 year old Juvan is just beginning her tennis career.
As a junior she reached a career high of 5, and was a semi-finalist in the doubles at both Wimbledon and the US Open. She spends most of her time on the junior ITF circuit, where she has won five events, but did qualify for Wimbledon last year, where she took a set off Serena Williams before eventually losing.
This year she came through three rounds of qualifying to make the main draw at the Australian Open, but was then thrashed in the first round by the Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska.
Since then she has helped Slovenia gain promotion from their Fed Cup group, and qualified for the main draw in Acapulco by beating first Nadia Podoroska of Argentina, and then Veronica Copede of Paraguay.

Whilst Williams is nothing like the force that she once was, and has proved vulnerable against teenage opponents in the past, as Coco Gauff has proved in the past, she should have too much know-how and experience for Juvan who is still finding her way on the senior tour.
