Kiki Bertens v Saisai Zheng Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before and Bertens has won on each occasion. Their first meeting came in the first round of the Miami Open in 2018, and the second in the semi-finals of last year’s WTA Elite event.

Bertens’s Fine Start to 2020 Could Continue

Bertens has now risen to six in the world after a strong start to 2020.

It began in Brisbane where, together with Ashleigh Barty, she reached the final of the doubles, only to lose to the top seeds Barbora Stycova and Hseih Su-wei. She then went to Melbourne where she reached the fourth round for the first time, and then she helped her country qualify for the Fed Cup finals by beating Belarus.

Then two weeks ago, Bertens successfully defended her title in St. Petersburg, beating Elena Rybakina in the final. It was the 10th WTA senior event that she had won.

She has carried her good form with her to Doha, beating Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic in straight sets in the second round on Monday.

Zheng, Indifferent Form Recently

Zheng is as well known for her exploits in doubles as she is in singles – she reached  the final of the French Open last year with Duan Yingying, although they were then beaten by Timea Babos of Hungary, and Kristina Mladenovic of France.

And, in 2020, her only final of the year so far came in the doubles, again with Yingying, in Shenzen at the start of the year, although they lost again.

She has had some success in singles though – she won the Silicon Valley Classic last August, and the 125K series event in Kuming, China, four months before that.

However, her form prior to this event has not been impressive. She lost in the second round in Melbourne, beaten by Naomi Osaka, and, in the Hua Hin Championships, she was defeated by Patricia Maria Tig of Romania, a player ranked 65 places below her in the WTA standings at the time.

She failed to qualify for the Dubai Tennis Championships last week, but she has shown some signs of a return to form in Doha, beating first Marketa Vondrousova, last year’s French Open finalist, and then the Russian Vera Zvonareva.

Kiki Bertens v Saisai Zheng Predictions & Tips

Bertens will start the heavy favourite to win this match – she is in a run of good form, whereas Zheng has turned in a series of indifferent performances recently. When their head to head record is factored into the equation as well, the Dutch player should win with ease.

Tip: Bertens to win in straight sets: 8/15 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
