Zverev Rebounded Well after ATP Cup

The ATP Cup was as shoddy a start as it could get for Alexander Zverev and signs of unfulfilled talent kept raising their ugly head. However, it was at the Australian Open Zverev showed why he’s such a highly-rated player, as he came through to the semifinal in the year’s first Slam.

Adding more substance to his run at the first major were the opponents he faced. This was no easy draw or a piece of fortune we are talking about. Marco Cecchinato in the first round, Andrey Rublev in the fourth and then Stan Wawrinka in the quarterfinals were all sent packing and it took only Dominic Thiem to get past him.

And even that was after Thiem had dropped the first set.

Zverev then took a near, month-long break and has resumed his action here in Dubai. He was a 7-6, 6-1 winner over Jason Jung in his opener round match and will now be pushing towards another punishing loss for his opponent.

In-Form Tommy Paul at Career Best

Ranked 66th in the world, Paul is improving with every tournament and this year has already seen him make it to the semifinal of one ATP competition. Starting out as a qualifier at the Adelaide International, Paul won a couple of rounds in the qualifiers to make it to the main draw before winning three more matches to reach the semifinals.

His crowning moment of the season came at the Australian Open where he made the third round, a run that included a win over Grigor Dimitrov in the second. An early exit at New York was probably par for the course and he then made round two before winning his opener at Delray Beach before going down to Frances Tiafoe.

At Acapulco he looks to have added another string to his bow as he came back from a set down to defeat MacKenzie McDonald in three sets. Zverev could prove to be slightly tougher his previous opponents.

Alexander Zverev v Tommy Paul Predictions & Tips

Zverev is a rather short 1/5 to win this one and 4/7 to win in straight sets but it might not be as straightforward as this. However, will it go to three sets? Extremely likely.

Tip: Zverev to win in straight sets: 4/7 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
