Petra Kvitova v Aryna Sabalenka Head to Head
Kvitova leads Sabalenka 2-1 in their series, with all three matches coming on hard-courts. The Czech left-hander won in Miami and Sydney, while her Belorussian opponent stunned her at the 2018 US Open.
Kvitova Ended Her Recent Hoodoo Against Barty
Petra Kvitova has had to work really hard to reach the championship match this week. She has played in three brutal three-setters, and it was only her match against Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur which did not go the distance. However, she needed to rally from behind in that match, eventually prevailing in two tiebreak sets.
Kvitova then snapped her recent losing streak against Ashleigh Barty in the semifinals to reach her second final at the Qatar Open. The Australian World No.1 had become somewhat of a bogey opponent for the Czech left-hander having won their previous four matches including their last eight showdown at the Australian Open last January.
But for the first time since the 2019 Australian Open, Kvitova was finally able to solve the Barty riddle, breaking serve four times from four opportunities. After missing last year’s participation at the event due to fatigue, Kvitova is back in Doha where her winning streak is now into double digits following that win over the French Open champion.
Can she make it eleven on Saturday?

Sabalenka Shows Power is Precious
Number nine seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus reached a 10th career WTA final after dismissing Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova with some immense ball-striking in just over an hour.
Sabalenka, who is making her tournament debut in the Qatari capital, also needed to dig deeper as she navigated her way into the final. She overcame Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit in her first match winning 7-5 in the deciding set. Her quarterfinal match against Saisai Zheng extended over two hours in tricky windy conditions.
The World No.13 did not have the best of starts in 2020, losing in the second round in Shenzhen where she was the defending champion. However, she bounced back a week later in Adelaide where she made the semifinals, beating Simona Halep along the way.
Sabalenka’s Australian Open campaign was a disaster as she lost in the first round to Carla Suarez Navarro. But the Middle Eastern swing seems to have rekindled her best form which she showed towards the end of 2019. A quarterfinals in Dubai has now been bettered by a run to the final in Doha. Will she claim her sixth career title?
Petra Kvitova v Aryna Sabalenka Predictions & Tips
Both players hit a heavy ball, but you could argue both are also susceptible to errors especially with the way strong windy conditions have impacted most of the matches this week. I suspect Kvitova will be more adept to neutralize Sabalenka’s power with her consistent ground-strokes off either wing. But a three-set match is the most probable outcome here.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
