Sofia Kenin v Oceane Dodin Head to Head

This will be the first time Kenin and Dodin will be facing off in a match at this level.

Kenin Registers Comeback Win

While form hasn’t been with Kenin since her Australian Open victory, the American world number five wasn’t expected to be given too much of a run by her second round opponent, Jaqueline Cristian. Cristian, a qualifier, ranked 174th in the world, took the first set in a tie-breaker and then went up 4-2 in the second set.

However, at 5-3, just a game away from the biggest win of her career, Cristian probably let the moment get to her as Kenin took control from that time onward. She went on a four-game winning streak to clinch the second set, and never dropped her serve again in the match to win it 6-4 in the third.

This win came on the back of a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Vitalia Diatchenko after having lost three of her four matches in the lead-up to that opening round encounter. However with Kenin getting back into some sort of a rhythm, she will be more confident than she was at the start of this tournament.

Low-Ranked Dodin’s Lost Just Three

Yep, 14 played by Dodin and she has lost just three matches. Now the sub-text to that is obviously the 130th-ranked player has been playing a lot of lower-level competitions and qualifiers of the WTA tournaments this season.

Having had a horrible 2018 where she won just nine matches all year, she has slowly inched her way back with a 48-20 record at the lower circuit last season. And she started off this season with a couple of solid performances.

It started with a couple of early losses; a failure to qualify for the Australian Open and a second round defeat at an ITF event but it was followed by making it to the main draw in St.Petersburg Open where she then made the quarterfinal. It took the in-form Elena Rybakina to get past her.

And then she won the Macon ITF tournament before defeating Mandy Minella in the opener here. She had a second round bye but now plays a tough quarterfinal encounter.

Sofia Kenin v Oceane Dodin Predictions & Tips

Kenin’s recent issues aside she has been a player to watch all of last season and start of this year and slowly seems to be returning back to full form. She should win this one and in straight sets too.
