Viktória Kužmová v Anna-Lena Friedsam Head to Head
This will be the second meeting between the two. In their only meeting prior to this, Kužmová won in straight sets on the hard courts at Linz in 2017.
Two Battling Wins For Kužmová So Far This Week
The 21-year-old Slovakian hasn’t had the best of starts to the new season. Coming into this tournament she had lost four of her opening six matches this year. So two fighting three-set wins for her this week would go a long way into finally kick-starting her season.
Kužmová had a very impressive 2018 where she won three lower-level titles and made significant progress at WTA events. She reached the semi-finals at Hertogenbosch and Budapest & ended the season with a win-loss record of 53-28. Last year she achieved her career-best ranking of 43 but lost her form in the second half of the season. Multiple early-round exits and an average start to this season has meant that she has dropped to 85 in the rankings now.
It would be interesting to see if she can continue her good form and make her way to the semi-finals.

Friedsam Coming off a Win Over Second Seed Mladenovic
The big-hitting German has had a terrible time with injuries in the last few seasons. She could only play 28 matches in the two full seasons of 2017 and 2018 after having to go through multiple shoulder operations. She made her comeback last year but struggled with form and consistency along with nagging injuries.
But she is finally looking fit again and back to her old best. After starting this season primarily playing on ITF events, she has looked very impressive this week. The hard indoor courts have really suited her attacking game and she has dispatched her both of her opponents in straight sets. Her win over second seed and local favourite Kristina Mlandenovic was a throwback to her 2016 form where she was the world number 45. She is high on confidence at the moment and may go all the way this week.
Viktória Kužmová v Anna-Lena Friedsam Predictions & Tips
The German player will start this match as a strong favourite. Even though Kužmová is almost 50 ranking spots higher than her opponent, she doesn’t have the game to trouble Friedsam on this surface.
