Four more players have been revealed by the Mutua Madrid Open to participate in their Virtual Pro tennis tournament which will be played in the last week of April this year.

The Madrid Open Virtual Pro, which is also called the eSports of tennis, has signed up for Alexander Zverev and Diego Schwartzman in the men’s section of the draw while the women’s draw will have Elina Svitolina and Johanna Konta playing a part.

This takes the count of the total players revealed by the Madrid Open to 20, 10 in each section of the draw out of a possible 16.

These 16 players in each section of the draw will replace their racquets with PS4 controllers and feature in a league-cum-knockout competition which begins on April 27. Each player will be placed in a group of four and play three matches during the league stage of this virtual tournament from their respective homes.

At the end of the league stage, the top two players from every group, i.e. the winner and the runner-up of the group, will make it to the quarterfinal, which will be followed by the semifinals and final.

So far, the players who have been signed up in the men’s section of the draw include Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, John Isner, Gael Monfils, Fabio Fognini, Lucas Pouille, Karen Khachanov and David Goffin.

The women’s draw has Madison Keys, Angelique Kerber, Carla Suarez Navarro, Fiona Ferro, Eugenie Bouchard, Kristina Mladenovic, Madison Keys and Victoria Azarenka.

Other than the main Virtual Pro competition, the Madrid Open will also see an exhibition tournament consisting of some of the best e-gamers rub their shoulders, virtually, with tennis players in a few matches.

The winners of each of the draws will pocket 150,000 Euros and they will have a choice to decide how much of that they want to donate to a fund which will help the lower-ranked tennis players. The tournament organisers will themselves add a further 50,000 Euros to a charity doing their bid to reduce the social impact of the coronavirus.
