Serena Williams’ first tournament since finishing runner-up at the 2018 Wimbledon will be at the Montreal Open while Simona Halep will be playing at the Connecticut Open to boost her preparation for that tournament.
The former world number American has also got a wild card to play at the Montreal Open, a tournament that begins from August 3 this year. Her run at the Wimbledon, where she made the final before losing to Angelique Kerber, helped her ranking bounce from No. 181 to No. 28.
Wimbledon was her fourth tournament since her return to competitive tennis following the birth of her child.

Williams’ last appearance at the Rogers Cup was in 2014 when she made it to the semi-finals, having won it thrice before that when the competition was hosted by Toronto.
With 23 Grand Slam titles to her name, Williams is now gunning to equal the record for the most, held by Margaret Court (24 titles).
Meanwhile, French Open winner Simona Halep will also be featuring in the Connecticut Open, after agreeing to a wild-card to take part in the final tournament before the US Open.
Halep moved to the number one spot in the WTA Rankings after winning her first Grand Slam title earlier at Roland-Garros, and will now be playing for the fourth time in the Connecticut Open.
The reasoning behind the decision to play at New Haven was based on how similar the courts and conditions in the competition are to those at the US Open.
The Romanian has made it to five WTA finals this season and will hope she can push on with that run when she takes to court at the Connecticut Open that will be played between August 17-25 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale.
