Herbert Aiming to Prepare for Clay

Unlike some of the other illustrious players in the top 100 of the ATP Rankings, Herbert has been playing competitive tennis even during the pandemic break. He featured in the Challenger Elite FFT where he made the final and lost to fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon and then participated in a couple of matches again in a similar tournament in France.

Before that, at the start of the season and before the pandemic struck, Herbert had bit of a middling season.

He started off with a quarterfinal exit at the Qatar Open, and a second round loss at the Australian Open followed. At Montpellier, Herbert was a shock winner over Felix Auger Aliassime but fell to David Goffin and then lost in the second round at Marseille and Dubai.

He will hope to use this tournament to go the distance and get his clay court preparations started.

Forejtek Racing Ahead on Clay

Just aged 19, .Forejtek is coming off having played as many as eight tournaments during the pandemic break. Of those he reached the finals of three and won two of them and has a win-loss record of 26-7 on clay this season.

The Czech was also a winner over the 177th-ranked Botic Van De Zandschulp of Netherlands in his first round match, needing three sets to edge past his opponent 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. That win, over an opponent ranked 300 places ahead of him would have given him a lot of confidence obviously but up against him now is a player who was once ranked 36th in the world.

It might prove to be a bridge too far for Forejtek but it also should be a huge learning experience he would love to take with him over the foreseeable future given the other lack of such pedigree on the lower tiers.

Pierre-Hugues Herbert v Jonas Forejtek Prediction & Tip

This is an interesting one from the bookmakers’ point of view, what with both players at 5/6 despite the disparity in their rankings. Herbert’s overall experience could trump Forejtek’s lack of it at this level but we will go with the games market here.

Tip: Over 22.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
