Aryna Sabalenka v Oceane Dodin Head to Head
Sabalenka and the 118th-ranked Dodin have never played each other before this.

Since tennis resumed, Sabalenka has shown sparks of her former self but at the same there have been periods of play where she has been outplayed by her opponents.
Playing four matches spread across two tournaments, Sabalenka has won her opener at both, in Lexington and the Western & Southern Open, but fallen to defeats in the next match. And all those four matches have gone to three sets.
At Lexington, she started off with a win against Madison Brengle before doing down to Cori Gauff and then at the Cincinnati Open, she defeated talented Cici Bellis but suffered a shock loss to Jessica Pegula.
Take nothing away from Sabalenka though who has won seven WTA titles over the last four seasons including the Qatar Open this year where she defeated the likes of Anett Kontaveit, Maria Sakkari and Petra Kvitova. Her best ever Grand Slam performance has also come at the US Open, in 2018, where she reached the fourth round.
Just about getting into some sort of a rhythm for Sabalenka before she can exert her authority.

Dodin Trying to Inch Back to Her Best
Once ranked 46th in the world, Dodin has fallen more than 70 places to outside the top 100. This hasn’t been aided by her showing since the return to tennis following the pandemic.
Resuming her campaign at the Palermo Open, she lost in the qualifiers, only to make it to the main draw as a lucky loser. While she did win a match in the first round she was sent packing in the second by Dayana Yastremska. At Prague, she then lost in the first round before moving her attention to hard court tennis.
Again, having to go through the qualifiers, Dodin won both those matches in straight sets before losing her opener to Cici Bellis.
Interestingly, Dodin hasn’t played in the main draw of a Grand Slam since the 2018 French Open, having lost in the qualifiers of four of them including in the first qualifier at the Australian Open this season. Can she make the most of her appearance here?

Sabalenka should win this but the bigger question is if she can make it through without breaking into a sweat. We could see Dodin stretch Sabalenka a tad here.
