He still doesn’t know of the long-term implications of the virus despite making a full recovery.
It all started with the Adria Tour debacle in June in which the 29-year-old bore the brunt of the criticism. He has since spoken to Novak Djokovic about it, and everything seems to be on the mend.
The single-handed Bulgarian scored a memorable victory over Roger Federer at last year’s US Open in which he equaled his career-best achievement at a Grand Slam when he made the semifinals. Will he have the energy to make such a run this fortnight?

Paul Drawing Inspiration From His Epic Melbourne Win
Tommy Paul made an encouraging start to his 2020 season in which he reached his maiden ATP semifinal at the Adelaide International. There, he beat seasoned campaigners such as Aljaz Bedene, Pablo Cuevas, and Albert Ramos Vinolas.
The 22-year-old had never won a Grand Slam match in his career prior to this year’s Australian Open, but that all changed as he translated his form from Adelaide to Melbourne. He shocked Leonard Mayer in the first round to pick up his first Grand Slam main draw win, and then in somewhat inspiring fashion he downed Grigor Dimitrov in a five-set tussle.
Up until this year, Paul spent most of his time on the Challenger tour painstakingly building up his ranking. He collected three Challenger tour titles last season and cracked the top-100 for the first time.

This is the kind of match up that could be awkward for Dimitrov. Granted the Bulgarian is a far superior proposition, Paul has made a habit of notching up his career-best victories on fast hard courts. Prior to the suspension of the tour he beat Alexander Zverev in Acapulco.
Considering Dimitrov is still feeling the ill-effects of Covid-19, we shouldn’t treat Paul’s win in Melbourne as a one-off.
